  1. If a man sell milk at cost price and he add some water in it and gain 20%. Then find the percentage of water in total solution?
    A) 20%
    B) 16 (2/3)%
    C) 25%
    D) 14 (2/3)%
    View Answer
    Option B
    Solution:

    In this case when we make profit by adding water. Then we keep profit percent into 100 of ratio to find ratio.
    Now we get( water : milk)
    .    water : milk
    .         20 : 100
    .           1 : 5
    Now to find % :- 1/(1+5)*100 = 16(2/3)% .
  2. After giving two successive discount of 10% and 9.09%. A man still gains 12.5%. Find what is the mark-up price if the selling price of that article is Rs 1800? Also find the cost price?
    A) Rs2200, Rs1600
    B) Rs2200, Rs1800
    C) Rs2000, Rs1400
    D) Rs2600,Rs2000
    View Answer
    Option A
    Solution:

    Two discounts – 10%, 9.09%.
    Profit- 12.5% = 1/8
    In both cases S.P is same so
    9 = 1800
    1 = 200
    M.P = 11 = 2200
    C.P = 8 = 1600.
  3. If a student gets 25% marks he fails by 25 marks. If he gets 35% marks he passes by 35 marks. Find how much marks are required to clear the exam?
    A) 150
    B) 210
    C) 175
    D) 125
    View Answer
    Option C
    Solution:

    25…………35
    Difference = 10
    10% == 60
    So 100% == 600
    Passing marks = 25% of 600 + 25 = 150 + 25 = 175
  4. In a class of 20 students the average marks is 65. If the marks of a new student is added then the ratio increases by 2 marks. Find the marks of the new student?
    A) 107
    B) 105
    C) 103
    D) 101
    View Answer
    Option A
    Solution:

    When a new student come, 2 marks are increased so on all (20+1) ….21*2 = 42
    So 65 + 42 = 107
  5. A is 33(1/3)% efficient as B and 50% efficient as C. If together they can complete a work in 50 days. Then find in how many days B alone can do the work?
    A) 120
    B) 100
    C) 300
    D) 150
    View Answer
    Option B
    Solution:

    .                A : B ………….|………..A : C
    Efficiency  1 : 3………….. | ……….1 : 2
    Days         3 : 1……………|….…… 2 : 1
    Make A equal
    A : B : C
    6 : 2 : 3
    Total work is LCM (6,2,3) = 6
    So A’s days = 6/6 = 1, B’s = 6/2 = 3, C’s = 2
    So for C
    1 day ====50 days
    2 days === 100 days
  6. A bus covers a distance in 24 hour. If it covers half of the distance with the speed of 60kmph and the other half @40kmph. Then find the distance cover by bus?
    A 1200
    B) 1152
    C) 1252
    D) 1100
    View Answer
    Option B
    Solution:

    Distance = s*t
    Average speed = (2*60*40)/(60+40) = 48
    So Distance = 48*24 = 1152 km
  7. The ratio of present ages of A & B is 5: 7 and 4 years back the ratio was 2:3. Find their ages after 10 years.

    E) 300
    View Answer
    Option C
    Solution:

  9. A shopkeeper bought rice at the rate of 6 Rs/kg. While selling he uses false weights of 800 gms instead of 1 kg. If he sells rice making a profit of 66 2/3%, then he sold rice at what rate (per kg)?
    A) Rs 8
    B) Rs 5
    C) Rs 10
    D) Rs 12
    E) Rs 14
    View Answer
    Option A
    Solution:

    When he uses 800 gms instead of 1000 gms. He makes a profit of
    (1000-800)/800 × 100 = 25%
    Let on CP he gains x%.
    So using successive formula:
    25 + x + 25*x/100 = 66 2/3
    Solve x = 100/3 %
    Now CP is Rs 6. Profit % is 100/3 %
    Find SP.
    SP = (100 + 100/3)% of 6 = Rs 8 per kg.

    B) Rs. 32
    C) Rs. 42
    D) Rs. 62
    E) None of these
    View Answer
    Option A
    Solution:

    CP = x
    SP = x + (x * x)/100 = 56
    x2 + 100x – 5600 = 0
    x = 40
    SP = 40 + (40 * 80)/100 = Rs. 72
